The influence of structural variations on the constitutive response and strain variations in thin fibrous materials

The stochastic variations in the structural properties of thin fiber networks govern to a great extent their mechanical performance. To assess influence local variability on strain and response network, we propose multiscale approach combining modeling, numerical simulation experimental measurements. Based micro-mechanical network simulations, continuum model describing at mesoscale level is first developed. Experimentally measured spatial fields thickness, density, orientation anisotropy are thereafter used as input macroscale finite-element model. latter simulate impact each studied properties. In addition, this work brings novelty by including drying condition during production process proposed experimentally validated comparison uniaxial responses. results suggest that density presents highest field followed thickness orientation. Meanwhile, for response, angle with respect restraints key influencer its contribution greater than developed sheet-making.
